Incoming Links and Their Importance

Incoming links from high page rank websites are extremely important in the search for high Search Engine (SE) rankings. If you are starting your website or trying to find ways of increasing traffic to your existing site, incoming links are a fantastic way to increase traffic in the shortest time possible.

Incoming links are just what they sound: links on other website’s pages that link to relevant pages on your website. For your website’s marketing purposes, incoming, or “inbound links” are fantastic because they are links that are offering you something (traffic to your site and higher SE rankings) for nothing. When a person surfing the web sees your link on another site, there is a possibility that they will click on the link and have a look at your site as well. Linking to a busy or poplar site has the potential to bring you higher visitation to your site.

While incoming links are important, another factor to remember is to vary the sites you link to. Of course it is important to link to relevant sites, it is also important to encompass all aspects of your site when linking to others. This way you can avoid counting on the traffic from the one site or one type of sites and ensure that your site will have a constant flow of traffic because your link will be on several different, but relevant, websites. Search Engines use several factors to determine SE rankings in regards to incoming links, but the following are the most important.

Strength depends on the relevancy of the site you have linked to. If you are selling tires, don’t link to a site about abacuses. If you sell tires, link to car lover’s groups, vacation sites, racing sites, and anything else to do with cars and what people use them for. In this example, you are also varying the sites you link to in order to maximize the number of people who will see your links. For example, you won’t just get people who like racing coming to your site, you will get all of the above people coming to have a look.

Relevance in another factor SE’s use to determine rankings. As we have discussed, link to sites that have something to do with yours. The tire website would score high in the factors the SE’s use for rankings if it linked to a site that manufactured and sold mag wheels. If the tire site linked to a site about bird watching, there wouldn’t be much relevance at all and would not score high. Last is the amount of sites you link to. Simply put, find as many sites that have some relevance to your product or service and link to them. By using these strategies, your site will see a marked improvement in SE rankings and page visits.
